The Cambridge Forum on AI: Culture and Society has issued a call for papers for an upcoming themed issue titled AI, Militarism, and Security, guest edited by Marijn Hoijtink and Erik Reichborn-Kjennerud.

The special issue invites critical and interdisciplinary research examining how artificial intelligence is shaping contemporary military practices, security infrastructures, and forms of state power. Rather than focusing solely on narratives of technological competition or “AI arms races,” the issue seeks contributions that interrogate the political, cultural, epistemic, and socio-technical dimensions of AI in militarism and security.

Abstracts of up to 1,500 words are due by 16 February 2026. Authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to develop full papers and participate in a hybrid workshop scheduled for mid-June 2026, with draft papers due in early June. Final manuscripts for consideration in the themed issue must be submitted by 16 October 2026.
