On Thursday 28 May, Marijn Hoijtink contributed to Crossing Wires – Arts & Democracy, a five-day programme in Brussels that brings together artists, researchers, policymakers, and the public to explore how technology is reshaping democratic societies.

Organised by Ohme and BrIAS, the event combines talks, workshops, and artistic interventions to examine contemporary democratic challenges at the intersection of technology, politics, and society.

As part of the “Democracy in the Algorithm Age” session on Thursday evening, Marijn joined a series of presentations and discussions addressing the growing role of algorithms and AI in shaping public decision-making and democratic processes.

RAW’s contribution brings a critical perspective on algorithmic warfare and military AI, highlighting how data-driven systems, automation, and narratives of efficiency extend beyond the battlefield and increasingly intersect with broader societal and democratic dynamics.
