On Tuesday, 13 January 2026, Utrecht University will host a compelling lecture by RAW researchers Marijn Hoijtink (University of Antwerp) and Linde Arentze (Utrecht University) on Algorithmic and Autonomous Warfare, as part of the Concerning War and Conflict Lecture Series.

This timely talk will examine how innovation, deployment, and impact of algorithmic military technologies, particularly in Ukraine since 2022, are reshaping the relationships between technology, warfare, and society. Against the backdrop of ongoing conflict and rapid technological change, the lecture will critically reflect on how artificial intelligence and autonomous systems are influencing not only battlefield dynamics but also broader social, political, and ethical dimensions of war.

The event will take place from 16:00 to 17:30 at Janskerkhof 2-3, room 021, in English, and will be followed by a Q&A and networking session. All interested staff, students, policymakers, and members of the public are welcome to attend.
